Consider the pilgrimages, the art of the Gothic period in France and especially Abbot Suger's ideas. Read what other students have written about the beginning of materialism. How do you think these Bible verses relate to the rising interest in creating lavish works of art for God?

"Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men" (Prov 22:29).
